How many fish can I quarantine at once?

Hi everyone I wanted to get the last batch of fish for my display tank, and wanted to quarantine them all at once. I'm plan on getting two helfrichi firefish(trying to pair them up), Midas blenny, tail spot blenny, and a small tomini tang. I have a 40 gallon breeder that I would have two sponge filters, which are currently being seeded in my display tank sump, a HOB filter packed with bio media from my DT sump, and a wave maker pointed at the water surface for surface agitation. I know most of the fish are small but im worried about and ammonia spike. Is this too much for the 40 gallon breeder, or should my over filtration be fine?

That amount of fish in 40 breeder is a lot. Not only for ammonia control but aggression. With that said I was able to successfully QT 5 fish all under 4" for 90 days in 29 gallon tank. I had plenty of filtration however, including 3 HOB filters filled with media, 3 internal sponge filters, and conducted 25% water changes weekly.

To remove any aggression issues from the equation, I added clear tank dividers which worked out perfectly.

That is awesome looking. I used a 40gal and had a good amount of fish in there at one time. I believe it was 6 chromis, a royal gramma, my flame angel, and a watchman goby. The trick is to monitor levels and constant water changes as stated. I didn't have dividers like this but that is a great idea. I did provide plenty of hiding places and I used a huge oversized filter as well as sponge filters. a good tip is to take the sponge from the filter prior to set up and leave it in your main tanks sump for awhile. This allows it to gather up a bunch of beneficial bacteria that will help keep the levels in check on the QT.

Also curious where you got those dividers or how you made them. Great way to socially acclimate and quarantine at once.

or can slit vinyl hose put on edges of dividers to hold in place,but first try some pieces of pvc pipe for hiding places they have to live together for a long time in the future

So set up my quarantine tank tonight. Getting fish tomorrow. Getting the two blennies and fire fish held off on the tomini tang. Used 2 sponge filters that were soaking in my sump. And the HOB has media in it that was in my sump. The fluidized filter it new and not seeded. When I big up fish tomorrow I’ll grab a bottle of biospira tomorrow while getting fish to give everything a little boost
