How many fish can you QT at once under CP method?

Hi all,

So I’m still in the planning steps of everything and been reading up about 30 day QT periods. I’m wonder how many fish can you keep in your QT at once and what size I should be going with.

Originally, I was going to go TTM with two 10G tanks. Now I’m considering CP with Prazipro.

Here are some considerations:

There will be three larger fish I will QT. I will purchase them as small as possible. They will be:

Kole Tang
Yellow Tang
Bluethroat Trigger

These fish will be QT one at a time. Will a 10G be enough assuming the purchase size is 1.5” to 2”

All the other fish will be small fish. They will Be ORA Clowns, Orchid dottyback, Diamond Goby, tail spot Blens etc. for small fish like this how many can you QT at once in a 10G or a 20G

One fish will be a wrasse (likely a Malanarus) - how would I QT him since they are sensitive to CP?

I would suggest a 20g or 29g for the amount of fish you wish to QT. 29g for the larger and 20g for the smaller if it was all at the same time.

The less stress the better.

For the wrasse, you can QT separately in a different medication or using TTM. I had three Blue Star Leopard Wrasse go through QT in copper in a 10g very well. These were picky eaters and all females so smaller was better in this case.

Add the kole tang before the yellow tang in that case... YT can be very territorial with similar size and shaped fish.

10g will work. 20+g would be more ideal for a 2 inch tang though.

Having a Kole I can attest that 10g is prob a bit small considering how they seem to spend a lot of time 'swimming'. My Kole is non-stop from one end to the other in and out of caves all day. 30 days in 10g just sounds like torture to me.

Okay - so sounds like a 20G long than [emoji16]. I can work with that. For the smaller fish like the gobies and clownfish - can I QT them as a batch in the 20G —- say 2 false percula, 1 watchman goby, and 1 orchid dottyback?

Should actually work out pretty well - I have a 125G display so I would just dump 10 gallons from the display when water changing the QT (50% water change) then redose the med for the lost water. I would change the water in the QT every week.

CP and prazi is the way to go.

A 29 gallon tank will serve you well and will improve your success rate, no doubt. Petco runs dollar a gallon sale from time to time and craigslist used tanks are everywhere for practically nothing.

You will be glad you did this.

Surprised to hear someone say this.
I am actually guilty when it comes to my first 4-5 fish which includes the Kole. They went straight into display which was new at the time. I was not aware of the QT procedure and was fortunate to not have any issues.
