Im getting ready to change the filters and membrane in my ro/di unit.Someone told me I should dump the first 50 gallons of water I make. When you guys change your filters do you dump out "x" number of gallons???

I never really heard of a specific number of gallons to be discarded but I have heard to let the unit run for about an hour after replacing the membrane. Not sure if the same applies for other cartridges.

When I got mine it told me the first 30g when you replace the Membrane

I'm still working on my first membrane....four years plus....and I have an in-line tds meter...two probes....one after RO and one after DI.

If I'm getting zero tds, I'm collecting water!

Why waste any of it. With new filters and membrane, the rodi should be working at it's best.

Thats exactly what i was thinking.Maybe dump the first 5 gallons incase of dust or anything like that. The reason I ask is i was approached my a guy when i was just buying my new filters and membranes and I quote "Dont forget to dump the first 50 gallons!". And it got me thinkin......
