Just wondering how many gyre pumps for a 60” 120 gallon. I currently have 2 coral box qp9 and a Hydor (approx 2400gph) I’m not happy with the Hydor, it’s got weak flow that you can’t feel 6” away and the qp9s are Loud and annoying. They provide decent flow. I’m ready to swallow my loss and chalk it up to learning. I just bought the Hydor a week a go, to help with dead spots and it flat out sucks, I don’t see where all these 5 star reviews come from.

So I’m looking at the gyre 330 pumps. The two pump package is 160$ more. Just wondering if one will cut it or two, or if I should look at something else.

Personally if you have the funds I would recommend the 2 pump package. You could run them at a lower setting if they have to much flow, which in turn helps them last longer. This is one of many pieces of equipment I believe you get what you pay for.

I would 2nd the recommendation of 2. I have 2 of the 250s in my 5' tanks and they do a great job.

Hydors have terrible flow. The 2450 says right on the box that you only get like 1700 once you attach any of the 3 required safety guards and it honestly feels like it's only half of that lol.
Also the 350 gyre barely costs more than the 330s
Remember 1 controller will control 2 of them and you can mix and match a 350 with a 330

I was thinking the two as well, but I wasn’t sure how to position them, plus I have a side overflow which I think leaves me around 10-11” on one side, do you guys have them on opposite sides or one horizontal and one verticals like side and back wall? I also thought about seeing how one worked and if it was sufficient I would keep the other one as a spare.

Yeah that pump is brutal, I totally regret that purchase, buying one 330 and one 350 would cost me about 700$+, the two 330 package is 569. I’m in Canada so we pay way more than Americans. The two 350s with tax would be over 700$, I can’t justify spending that much on powerheads, I do still have the qp9s I can incorporate if I need to.

I have one vertical blowing across the back and one horizontal in the center of the tank. Both are on Reef Crest mode I think it’s called and 2 - 2100 gph wave pumps 1 on each end blowing towards the center of my tank. This is all on my 240 and the flow is nuts at full power so I have them running at about 30-40% each and my corals and fish love it, if I go any higher my fish tend to hide as they get blown around to much. Your thoughts on trying one and having the other as a spare if one is enough is great thinking.
