I am a amateur. I am a level 2 PADI certified diver.

This is only in NC by the way. I really want to go somewhere tropical and dive!

I am, I don't get out as much as I like. But my wife and I try and go at least once a year, although that doesn't happen some times. I love diving!!!!!!

I'm a PADI master diver and you should definitely get certified Rev! You can complete the course work for the basic open water diver course locally and then do your open water dives on a vacation to finish your certification. If you need motivation for why you should get certified, just look at the pics from a few of Craig's diving trips!

I am. I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and never went diving, I got certified here in Knoxville. I now am now a member of the Sheriffs Office Recovery Dive Team.

I dove a civil war era wreck, cave systems in the Yucatan, with schooling sharks in the pacific, and the worlds second largest barrier reef. There are not very many bad dives in between.

Go get your open water certificate and take your girl on a carribean cruise with a couple dives.

I am Rev. Have been diving all over and love it. I just have my open water cert and that is a good start. I don't really aspire to do much more with it other than dive and have fun. It is something that every reef tank keeper would love. I would highly recommend it. Certification lasts for a lifetime and as long as you are diving every year or 2, it will not require further education. Breathing underwater is an amazing feeling!

I just got back from vaca in cancun area. I got my open water certification. Have some book work todo before dive recommend doing online or at home before trip so not wasting anytime once there. I did my pool training and went out the same day for a few dives. It is a lil freaky at first in pool to breathe under water more mind thing. Once out at the reef it was literally amazing the things we saw and lets you see a true reef exp. I'd agree that every reefer shoud dive and see it was awesome and can't wait todo it again..

Costs weren't awful I did book work, test, training and 4 - 40-45 min dives using their equipment was around $450 at resort

I've done SCUBA before, but prefer freediving (on breath hold).

I completed a PADI Open Water cert while vacationing in Negril a few years ago. It took 3 days (some pool work then 2 dives a day) after having already done most of the reading and paperwork. For a marine aquatics hobbyist, there's nothing like it. The opportunity to be inches from the reef, rather than staring through a pane of glass or acrylic is exhilarating.

I'm a diver as well. I actually go certified through my work up to Rescue Diver and love it! Like any other hobby the initial investment with equipment is a little expensive but once you have everything all you need is a cheap tank fill and gas to get you there. A great thing on the California Coast is the Reefcheck organization (they also are all around the world), where you can obtain a certification as a scientific diver after completing a 2 day or more course (mine was a the Monterey Bay Aquarium). It's a great certification because it allows you to become familiar with you local species as well as helping the Reefcheck organization assess the health of an ecosystem. Diving is a great hobby and I would definitely recommend getting certified.

I'm a certified NAUI diver. It's been about 10 years but I'm finally getting back in the game! My fiancé will be getting her NAUI certification in the next couple months, I'll be taking either the next NAUI course or the first two PADI courses myself. If you think watching your reef is relaxing just wait til you get 40 feet down!

I don't have mine yet but there is a guy in our reef club who gives diving lessons so we can get our licenses. So if the hubby and I can afford it, we will be getting ours this summer.

Do it! It is amazing. My husband and I are certified. You just see SO much more and the more you look, the more you see. Can't even compare it to snorkelling as you can't really stay and look at stuff for extended time. You can hear parrot fish scraping coral. You can see clownfish hosting an anemone 3ft in diameter and not think twice about chasing you out. Schools of anthias. One of the coolest things I have seen on a dive, was on a wall drift dive. There was a break in the wall and as we came around the corner and there were THOUSANDS of juvenile niger triggers. They were so beautiful in numbers like that, like thousands of blue/black butterflies. And then on the same dive turning to the open ocean behind and looking into a black tip reef sharks eyes from 20 feet. Luckily they looked well fed

Yep! In cancun now and just finished up a dive on the reef. Tooooons of fish. Angels, triggers, soldiers, grunts, turtles, puffers, gobies, you name it
