Two would be better, you may have to sump the clown either way, be aware.

A bristlooth tang of some sort would be a good addition, or you could add two more zebrasoma perhaps - a purple and a scopas perhaps. Sailfin get too large long-term.
Here is an interesting observation: before we moved from CA to AZ I had A 55 gallons with 3 tangs: yellow, sailfin and clown. The clown was the most pacific of them I had them for 5 years before I sold them before the move. Today the clown that I have seems to be a great one as well. My son got one and his was a nightmare and got rid of it. I guess they are like people... nice and not so much:)

It depends on pecking order. Certain fish are more likely to be higher up in the pecking order, but order added can have a lot to do with that, as can temperament and size. So if the clown was added last, it’s possible that it was low on the totem pole. When an aggressive tang such as a Sohal, clown, and especially powder blue is “tank boss”, things can be more serious.

I agree with you. For that reason , I made sure to add the clown last well after the two other ones were well acclimated. This time around I also had ordered a PBT and purple to introduce them all at once but it didn’t work out. This why I am asking all these questions

Following your logic of the tank boss, adding a PBT last after they are all acclimated might work if the clown stays docile?

I would love a purple. It is not that I don’t want another zebrazoma, I just thought that to many of them might be a recipe for disaster since I am aware that I am really pushing my luck by having 3 yellows.
I would not add a sole tang, much less a zebrasoma (purple) to a group of existing zebrasoma. Maybe two, but one would likely be a disaster.

Possibly

Still looking at the blue color option for a tang.... what about a blue Caribbean tang?
Thoughts?

powder blue seem to be even more prone to ick in my experience. and with 4 other tangs in that tank, stress will inevitably come out. I had 3 yellow tangs in my 240 that got along for almost 1.5 years, then out on the blue they beat each other up and I had to remove 2 of them. :(

Thank you Corey. I think that I am going to concentrate on buying corals. In need to fill the tank:)

How many tangs can I have in my Red Sea 750 (160gl)? I introduced 3 yellow and a clown tang at the same time. They are all doing well. I would rather not get another Zebrasoma type due to the 3 yellow and no more Acanthurus because they are generally very aggressive. I was thinking about powder blue. Should I get 2 so that the current tangs do gang on a single one or is it a bad idea? Suggestions please
I know this is an old post but would like to know what he OP went with?
