How many tangs in one tank?

How long is the tank? also depends on which types of tangs, and how big they are going to get.

The tank is 64 inches long. I've created several caves and nooks for fish to hide but I worry about a outbreak of ich. Tangs on my list include: Regal, Powder Blue, Blonde Naso, Achilles, Purple Tang, and a mimic lemonpeel.

I believe you can keep all those tangs in a 200 as long as you just get 1 of each species. I suggest buying smaller specimens (not full sized adults) as they tend to do better in the long run and be sure to do a propholactic copper treatment and quarantine all of them for at least a month. Those tangs are ich magnets!

Thank you for the info! I know with those tangs a quarantine tank is a must!

You should be fine with those. I love tangs as well, in my old 180 i had a clown tang, yellow tang, purple tang orange shoulder tang and hippo tang

I always think a school of yellows in a big tank looks awesome, something like five yellows. Your tank is kind of short for a 200, is it tall or wide to make up for the loss of length? If its taller, some of the bigger tangs you might want to stay away from.

I wouldn't keep an N. elegans, nor an Achilles in a that is a bit over 5 feet long --- prefer a least an 8 footer for those two. The "regal" is pushing it too, for that sized tank.

Nice List!!

The Naso is the biggest of what you list and I personally think an 8' tank minimum. Other then that it looks great! Just know the Achilles is not an easy fish to keep and might get stressed with that many other tangs...or maybe not.

Thank you all so much for the info! A few people locally told me a powder blue and achilles can't be kept together. Is this true?

they are VERY similar fish. same type (Acanthurus) of tangs. this is your most likely cause of issue, but if added at the same time you should be good to go. both are very succeptable to ich. make sure you QT them well and other introductions to ensure their health.

fwiw, I have a Naso, Blue hippo, Atlantic Blue and Powder brown in my 180. all doing very well. I ahve two Acanthurus in my tank. it was a bit of a war at first, as I have had my atlantic blue a while, but all is good now.
