How many of you utilize the filter on the intake of the return
pump? I have been using the one that came with mine (mag5)
and not sure if it absolutly necessary. Also I need recomendations
for a quieter pump for my reactor other than the maxijet 1200,
this thing makes a hellofalota rattling noise that i just cant
seem to stop.

Maxijets are usuall silent unless its rattle on your glass. If that's the noise they sell suction mounts for them or I've heard of people using rubber mats to silence pumps.

As for pump pre filters its more preference but I don't use one because they way I set my tank up food floats around till eaten
so if food gets in sump its stirred up by pumps in sump and sent back to the display.

I use them for my frag tanks. My display I do without. Not sure if they may restrict the flow a little?

For the Mags I wouldn't use it. The prefilters for those are more for if you were to use it in a pond with tons of debris in it.

Yeah the mag filters clog up fast and when you remove it all that debris just goes right back in the tank. Plus they need to be cleaned often or you will have parameter issues.

agree, dont use prefilter... also, maxijets are super noisy when you restrict flow out of them...atleast in my experience, i dont have a suggestion for alternative

Filter is now off... I was thinking it might be a nitrate factory if i were to get
lazy about cleaning it. Thanks
