Is there an amount that can be detrimental either +/- x amount of DKH?

Daily I would say less that .1 to .3. Weekly .5 to .7
But even those numbers are pushing it if you did it every week

Why do some coral vendor websites show 8-9dkh range for their tanks?

I wouldn’t assume that’s daily fluctuations
Would assume that’s the range they advise you to keep you system in that range
That is very true!

I’ve always read 0.5 per day. I guess staying within range - 7-11 with a difference of .5 per day won’t be detrimental. I’ve had crazy swings however and everything lived.

I happen to think it is directly related to how old your tank is. In the early stages I think .5 is something to focus on. As the tank matures it could probably handle a 1 point swing.

It also depends on how much nitrate and phosphate you have. Higher levels can handle higher swings.

It could be just me but I've found the closer to 7dkh I get, the more cushion I have in fluctuation.

All that being said try to keep it as stable as possible for as long as possible. If you do that then an aberration here and there won't hurt everything.

Yes I agree with the above. It also depends on the other factors
A 1 point swing in a couple of days probably won’t kill healthy growing lps or even sps

But a few days of .5 might kill your unhealthy acro frag that has grown 1 inch in 5 months.
Alk is one of the most important factors but it’s not the only one
