Hi All - I am having issues with my SPS (mainly maricultures) going brown. My Calc is 440, ALK is 8.9 . I am dosing Oceans Blend 1 & 2. NO3 is 0 and PO4 is .003 (Some Color on the testes) I am using Salifert Tests.

I do not know if there is evidence that any amount is too much, although few people experiment above about 12 dKH. They may grow faster at higher alkalinity, at least over the 7-12 dKH range.

If the alk is above about 7-8 dKH, you need to ensure the corals are getting enough nutrients to prevent burnt tips, which might come from corals growing faster than skeleton can keep up.

In your case, I'd let nitrate and phosphate climb a bit (or dose it) to values more like 2-5 ppm nitrate and 0.02-0.03 ppm phosphate, or let the alk drop below 8 dKH. :)

Ok. yea I think im going to take my NOPOX offline for a while and get the Phosphates and Nitrates up some and see if that will help. Just not sure on this NOPOX.

That sounds like a fine plan.

What do you mean by "Just not sure on this NOPOX."?

Ive been using it for sometime and it has kept my alge away and all but it just seems like im having dino outbreaks every now and then. I just got done with a 3 day black out and it seems as if its gone for good. At least it didn't come back yet after 3 days of the lights being back on but this is not the 1st time ive had this issue and ive read that others blamed NOPOX. I'm only dosing 1ml a day for my 45 AIO. These are not up-to-date pictures and ill post todays pics this evening and show you the SPS im questioning.

Also having maricultured acros brown out is very common. It may not be your tank, they are much more difficult to keep

Ended up being my alk went up to 14.1. Back down to 9.3 and still lowering. Hopefully the brown will go away soon but all the algae is gone. Faulty doser and me not testing when I first noticed the issue. Shame on me
