How much chaeto should I keep in my refugium?

The best way to tell how much is to much, watch your water chemistry.

But this is a very fair question! Wonder if we have any scientist here that’s tested this theory.

I’m assuming I have too much... my nutrients are all zero. I don’t keep the chaeto for nutrient export... more for pod population for the mandarin. Gotta figure out a way to raise nutrients... recently cut the light cycle in the fuge drastically.

It is a good question. I've always let it nearly fill the fuge before trimming, but not sure if that's the most efficient way to do it. Another good question might be: How far back should you trim the chaeto for max effectiveness?

I would say if your water quality is at zero on everything, that might be to much in there.

Also, if that’s all the Chaeto you have in your sump, that’s nothing! Unless it’s on a three gallon tank!

I’ve seen people with fifty times that amount on a 100G tank. I would say your safe and take my last post back!
You could cut back on GFO though to help.

That’s when I first got it! Is double that size now and it’s a 125 gallon system

Do you run GFO or bio pellets and Cheato? If so, you're using multiple methods to achieve the same goal.

Hard to tell the scale based on the pic... but for a 125g system I think that’s probably nothing. I have probably 8x that much on a 35g

I let mine fill my fuge then trim at least once a week mine grows fast
