How much coral at once is too much?

Like the title says I'm curious how much/many corals is alright to introduce at once? I plan on taking advantage of some boxing day sales and would like to not only grab some more testing and dosing products but get a nice selection of corals also. Sticking to only LPs and soft corals. Thanks!!

Youre probably safe with LPS and Soft corals. The biggest factor is their consumption of chemicals in the water will cause it to dip. Zoas should be easy to add multiple frags, and I havent had any issues doing the same with Euphyllia and Candy Canes.

+1. With softies and LPS you shouldn’t worry about them not doing well. If your existing corals are fine then I’d add the new ones without hesitation, just make sure you keep up with the chemical consumption as stated earlier. Also, make sure you don’t overstock because euphyllia have a pretty nasty sting and need to be kept apart from other corals

From what I've read this morning it sounds like hammers and frogspawn is alright to bunch together but torches can get nasty. We're going to try and keep them seperate in our tank. I don't think Santa makes red sea testing kits so I'll be picking up a few of them on boxing day along with some water supplements. Thanks

Man I’ve added batches of 15, 10, and 30 mixed LPS SPS to my 75 g system that’s only been running since October. Corals have little impact other than the uptake of elements. If you can be vigilant and adjust your dosing you won’t have any issues with adding hard corals. I happen to run carbon when adding frags because of the risk of toxins being released in the water column. Appropriate acclimation to light is important. I have multiple different frag racks for different coral types as I acclimate to my light.

Hammers are just fine together. Here’s my hammer garden, 8 varieties and two of them are wall hammers (the neon yellow-green one and small orange/blue one). My torches are separated but not by a whole lot, just enough to keep their tentacles separated. They’re a little farther apart than the pic shows, there’s at least 1” of clearance between all of them

I have a secret to this.... If your significant other is into the hobby too, and happens to shop by eye, not by price ( my wife just likes pretty colors and doesnt care what it costs) then you get better and more coral! Long story short, hook your significant other!

I have a better secret... my wife has no clue to how much I make, and doesn't care to know. I do all the finances. and I rarely tell her no on anything she wants except when it comes to corals and fish. she has great taste but it would be all out warfare in the tank if I let her have her way.
