How much did your Tank Setup Cost??

More than I care to admit, but not enough to stop me from continuing on. My wife said we spent a LOT of money in the last year.

Lets just say if we all quit the hobby today, we can all fly to Hawaii on first class and stay five star for at least a month with diving trips to the “real” reef daily
I'm in Hawaii right now! Snorkeling is fantastic.

So this will make many of you feel better - I've bought most of the equipment for my upcoming 240 gallon tank. Tank isn't even set up yet, and it's looking like I'll be close to $70K by the time I have water in the system.

Agreed....

Yes, it would be great to have some cool stuff that "modern world" have, but here, prices is insane, offering is poor, so, basically, if you don't have lots of money, diy is your best friend, and improvisation only way to do something...
I totally understand. Sometimes DIY solutions can be very elegant and do a much better job than something complex. If if makes you feel better, sometimes thlsr modern devices are a pain and don't cooperate!

Ok so …. I have a slight idea .
from
One particular store where I buy some livestock and the only store I can buy my salt .

for every $1000 I spend I get $25 off for my next purchase .
I have used that $25 off towards many buckets of salt over the years .

now I’m curious . The next time I’m in there. I wonder if they keep track of total spent over the years. .

that’s only one store .

My 25 gallon mixed reef AIO is sitting around $4,000. My 20 gallon high tech planted tank is around $1,000. My RODI system is another $400. Most everything is highly automated since I'm away from my apartment on a large number of weekends. And a week long vacation each year

A lot of what I have is DIY. The sump, filter, phosphate reactor, overflow, pretty much everything but the skimmer. I had a lot of my dry rock and the aquarium itself on hand. Even still I’d hate to know what it cost to put it all together.

I get something similar, every 150 bucks I spend I get 5 bucks off. Max is 15 bucks or 450 points. Every point represents a dollar spent. Lets say about every 3rd visit I max out. Usually 3-4 times a year, lol. Probably more so with prices going up. Im much like you, I have one main store for stock (they QT fish) and one main store for coral. The coral one does points also and I'd be ashamed to talk about that one, lol.

I spent $4400 on my waterbox 220.6 and Caribbean rocks, $2500 on lights, $1400 on various apex products, $200 on sand and who knows on incidentals. Soooo $8k+ but if yhe wife asks, I got everything used at a steal

Let’s just say with the points I earned from purchasing & installation of my WB 220.6 from WWC I will probably never have to pay for another coral for many years

Or the opposite. The points will only pay for one coral. LOL

The expenses related to this hobby have really gotten way out of hand over the years. I understand that enjoyment is more important than money in many cases but it's gotten to kind of a ridiculous point in my opinion...I spent plenty of money for my two tanks...not as much as you guys since I'm overseas but still a lot of money

I wish my coral place did points .
I don’t think the lfs I’m talking about qt their fish . And recently found out they run copper in all their sale tanks .
the other seasoned employee says they add acid to their system when receiving new fish to help
With acclimation and ph .
Not sure if either know what the other is doing
But that’s the only store I buy fish from.

Everything is healthy and has a chance at survival .
I’ve bought fish in other stores . They barely make it out of the bag
