I know but I dont drink, I dont go out to bars and I enjoy exotic corals, Sometine my wife is worst than me. She bought a rear LPS from Manhatan for $1275.00. I never really liked it but she loves it so I gave in

both of you are insane but hey its what you love so got to do what you got to do.

I have spent 1500 on a single frag once. It comes down to how bad you want a piece in your collection. I think its a underling ******* compatition to most though.

When I was heavly into SPS collecting I tought $200 per frag was a lot, then I started with chalice's and that took me over the edge. My wife bought our first chalice 2 yrs ago at the manhattan reefs swap, pink *******,tiny peice maybe 1/4x1/4 $300. I thought she was crazy but after that it really got out of control

I tend to stick around the $10 - $30 mark for frags. Mini colonies maybe up to $60. I don't jump into the whole ultra colored, supre rare, sexy, insane corals that cost a small fortune. Sure they are pretty for the most part but I have seen some people pay more for a frag than I have on my whole system. What's rare today will be flooding the market in a year or two and be much cheaper.

Exactly, that is why i hold off on spending big bucks on currently hard to find specimens.

I like to spend under $30 for a frag. Actually I'd rather have it $20 and under. Any more than that and I expect a much larger piece :)

Lately after "succumbing" to pressure of collecting more exotic corals which I don't normally do ... I only, if possible, collect wild and large colonies from my LFS.

I've been going full throttle in this hobby since 2005, and I can honestly say that there have been a few times where I have only seen a particular coral once. Twice I bought it, the other times I let it slip through my fingers. Those 2 corals I have never ever seen again. At the same time I get what you're saying and I'd say 98% of the time it is true. As much as I love this hobby and exotic fish and corals, I lose sleep over that 2%.

I spend 10-30 depending on size but thats mostly on ebay. They are much cheaper than the lfs. I hate to loose coral and this is why I don't spend more.

pending on the coral and the size i would spend 1000 ++ on it salty my wife is the same way ... she will buy a rare piece and be like well we had to have it ...

over the years I would say 95 percent of the time it's $20 or less per frag. There have been some notable exceptions, when elitereefs has a one of there mimic corals (you know the ones, $1000+ and eye chalises he sells for $50) I can't pass it up. I got in on my very first group buy here not long ago it has $250+ frags in the pack but after working it out it comes to about $15 each so not sure how that works....

The most I've spend was $100 for 10 polyps of tubbs blue in one shot. But per polyp, I spent $25 for purple deaths or the nuclear green per polyp. So I only got one and grew it. :)

Five or ten dollars at frag swaps and even at some LFS. Once I paid $40 at an LFS for a very nice LPS. It took me 3 trips back to look at it again and research on line that showed the same coral (not as big or pretty as mine) for $60 - $100 plus shipping before I finally bought it.
