How much evaporation is normal??

Hello,

I have a 60g open top cube with sump set up. I keep it around 78 degrees and have 1 powerhead. I am experiencing about 5 gallons of evaporation a week....is this normal?? I have checked and re-checked for leaks and there doesn't seem to be any leaks at all. Outside temp is fairly cold as I live in Canada so excess heat should not be an issue.

Sounds reasonable. I have a 90 gallon DT and evaporate about 1 to 1 1/2 gallons a day.

If you don't have an ATO, highly recommend.

Also remember that your cold, Canuck air is pretty dry. As it mixes into your house and warms up, it will be able to hold much more water. For comparison, my 150 (about 250 total gallons) evaporated 4.19 gallons in the last 24 hours. Admittedly, my house leaks like a sieve.

I am surprised it's not more! My 60 cube in the winter was about 1g/day.

I have a 50g open top cube and i go through at least 5 gallons a week so i would say that is certainly reasonable. I live in very dry Arizona and after realizing how much i was evaporating i purchased an ATO, if you have not done it already i would do it now.

I have a 92g, 30g sump, led lights with glass tops on the display and a small gap with 6 of those cpu fans blowing, above and below the glass tops running on it 24/7 and go through 10 gallons a week.

Yep. I evaporate much more (about 30% I would say) in the winter than in the summer.

Is it normal to not have any for days? These last 2 weeks has been hot here in socal (hot for us spoiled weather brats who think 85 is really hot) and my heater hasn't turned on and nor has my ATO. At all.
