Hey guys! I currently have a 40 breeder that I have not set up yet. I bought a 1600gph hygger powerhead, but I don't think that would be enough flow for my tank size. Would I need another one of the same one? I would not be adding coral for at least 8 months. I need some coral and fish need higher flow rates but I wasn't sure is 1600gph was too low for my tank. Thanks!

I use a SOW-8 on my 40b tank.
that powerhead is rated for 1057gph - 5283gph.

It is sufficient most of the time, but if you let it get too dirty, flow can be reduced to where I start getting dead areas where stuff can settle...
with just a single powerhead, I have to make sure I keep it pretty clean, otherwise flow in the tank drops.

I've been meaning to add a second wavemaker to the tank, but haven't done it yet.

I doubt a single 1600 gph powerhead will be sufficient.

One will be fine for now but I would probably add a second. 2 Weaker pumps is preferable to one large one.
