just swapped my 500 gph power head for a 800 gph one and I feel like that is too much. Should I just stick with the 500 or the 800? I switched because it seemed like I was getting detrius build up from not enough flow. But now I feel like I have too much. I'm looking to get corals also. Zoas, frogspawn and hammerheads.

I have 2 465gph hydors in my 10 gallon. My 45 has 2-265gph return pump and an mp10 working around 1000gph. You should get another 800 haha.

I think the rule of thumb is 30-40x your tank size. So you should be between 1,950 and 2,600 gph

Going from a 500 to a 800 is just big I guess lol. It just seems like it's pushing so much water around

I'm running 2 Jebao wp-10s and a Tunze 6040 and feel I need more flow. A reef has a lot more flow than we think.

lots of factors come into play. I have a 65 gallon sps dominant tank with 95% tonga branch as my aquascape. I run 2 RW 8's an MP10 and a Wp25. I have the wp25 close to the bottom keeping detritus from settling on the sand bed, an rw8 on the back wall, and an rw8 and the mp10 on either side. This is a lot of flow but my sps love it, and my lps are also happy. I keep a lobo, a large candy cane colony, a bunch of acans a frogspawn and a nice blasto colony. Keep in mind I have a coarse sandbed that has crushed coral mixed in to keep it from blowing around. If I had fine sand it would be a slurry. Im from the school of thought that there is never really enough flow...

Yea i have a crushed coral sand bed so mine won't blow around either. I guess I might go ahead and run both

Should I just put them on opposite sides and point towards the top to have them crash? What's the best positioning?

I have a 60 gallon tank. I have a 1150 GPH pump on the left side of my tank and it does fine. I also have an 800 GPH pump on the right side and if I turn that one on in addition to my other pump, it is too powerful for my little fish. I still need to play with aiming this pump in different directions to see if I can find a good place. So no real advice here but just what I am experiencing.

I'm running 2 RW-8 + return on my 75 mixed reef. I have one on on each side with one mounted low and the other mounted high. Both on else mode at 50% power.
