How much is my tank worth?

Price will depende on how scratchfree your glass is. Any deep scratches and it won’t be worth much

Got very few small minor scratches as any used tank will. Nothing deep or noticeable especially with water in it

If its a experienced person, most will consider old pumps, heaters, and other equipment to have no value. They would install with new and use the old for backup.
If you have receipts on the equipment showing less than a years worth of use then maybe.

You will get a much better price if everything is pristinely clean.
I would say I have seen most good tanks sell for an average of 50% off from new retail.
But this is subject to age of tank.

If it’s in the San Diego area, I’d list it for 50% of the value and within minutes would get an offer for $5 cash or playstation games.
I tried to list a Biocube and most of the offers were to trade for custom glass weed pipes. I thought that was odd.
Price it what you think it’s worth but it’s really worth what people will ok paying. I always plan to lose at least 50% of what I spent if I have to sell. But that’s just me. Tough being in a niche hobby.

Reality is, it's worth what someone will pay. And that usually isn't what you would have hoped for. Assume most of what you have to be worth a fraction of it's value immediately after you use it for the first time. If it's high end equipment (Neptune, ATI, Ecotech, etc.), it might retain 50% of it's value if it's still in excellent condition.

I'd start at about half what you paid, give it some time, then drop a little, give it some time and so on. You'll eventually figure out what the market is in your area.

About a year ago I left the hobby and sold everything. I probably had close to $10K invested. On average I recouped about 50% but had it not been for some very nice corals the overall sale price would have been a lot less. You will be very lucky to get 50%. My tank was pristine, zero scratches, custom euro cabinet and custom sump. I got 25% of what I had in it. The scratches may be minor to your eyes but if you can see them on an empty tank it will hurt resale.

Right now? I will be shocked if you get $100. I tried to give away 120g AGA Megaflow with stand, 125g, and a few others and nobody wanted them. Pandemic and downward economy are not great for selling hobby stuff for good money.

I just takes one person, though.

If you get a 50% offer.... kiss the Buyer on the lips (with masks on)

Your avenue to sell is usually Craigslist

Most Craigslisters want the "deal of the century" paying no more than 10% maybe 20% of its retail.

Other avenue is ask for your LFS for you to post a piece of paper on their wall as an Sales Flyer with tearoff phone#s tags on the bottom. More educationed buyers usually troll LFSs but they still want the "deal of the century"

$75-100 on the low end

$200+ ask the Buyer if you can start strapping it to the roof of their car immediately. Lol

.

start high so they can jerk you down and think they got a great deal.
FB market is another place to post sales on.
good luck.

I kindly disagree.... I've seen a full 75g setup with everything included and a guy asking $2500

My immediate thought is "this guy is NUTS and I dont want to even negotiate with him bc his stuff is worth about $750 tops"

You come in too high, ppl are really PUTOFF..

Just my opinion

alright so I ended up selling the tank for $325. Guy lived 2 hrs away and so we met half way.

now there's 1 issue. I got this tank from a guy I traded my corals for it. He said it was a 45 gallon tank. I believed him took the tank and just wanted to sell the tank. Its much harder to sell corals vs selling a tank. I didn't measure the tank or anything just threw it on facebook. After I sold it the guy messaged me saying its a 30 gallon tank....

I didn't realize it was a 30 gallon tank. What should I do in this situation? he lives 2 hrs away and met me in a public parking lot.
