So if you can tell by my previous threads started here, I am kind of clueless when it comes to flow. I'm good with pretty much everything. So, I am in the middle of a trade for a 425 gph powerhead for my up and coming 10 gallon reef. However, the person I am trading with has not gotten back to me in a few days. I have someone else who has a 500 gph powerhead that they would trade. But I don't know if that's too much! I'm doing mainly zoa/various polyp dominated tank. I know most of them like moderate flow, but how do I know what is moderate for my tank? Is there any experts out there? Or a chart perhaps?

Well, all in perspective but don't think that even 500gph is to much. I have a Hydor Evo 1050 + Hydor 2 (4-600gph ?) + Aqua Clear 70 HOB filter on my 15g Frag Tank which gives plenty of flow....... but not overkill.

Cheers, Todd

I believe that more flow is better. I run am mp10 on reefcrest mode at 100% as well as an mj900 and an mj400 (400 only blows flow behind rock) in my 40breeder. Dead spots can cause a lot of issues.. 500gph would be best.

Why not get a power head with adjustable gph? I assume you are looking for a in- tank power head to move water around and not a sump pump. Aqua Clear makes small power heads with adjustable flow and comes with a flare attachment. They cost around 20 bucks. If money is no option, vortech mp10. Then you can get what ever flow your heart desires. A little over kill though for a 10 gallon reef. Low or moderate flow for zoas and polyp's. Just enough to move nutrients around in the tank. No reason to blast them.
