Always wondered if I provide enough Nori for my Tangs. I have a 450g with a heavy number of fish. All eat some of the Nori, but obviously the Tangs are ravenous with it. I currently have 6 YT's (medium), 5 Hippo's (medium) and a Naso (medium). Will probably add around 5-6 more Tangs in the near future.

I am currently giving them 1 nori sheet per day (in the morning), missing maybe one day per week on average. They consume the entire sheet within 2 hours or less. Think I should be putting an additional half-sheet or full-sheet in there again later in the day as well? Or is this more than enough to keep them veggie-healthy?

I also feed either mysis or Rod's Food each night, probably 5 days per week on average.

I give my fish enough nori to last most of the day. I have several clips for it. That way less dominant fish have access. I would suggest putting in 2 sheets. Of course, other issues my intrude. You may have problems with adequate nutrient export. But all the fish poop would be great for corals.

I have 3 tangs in a 120 DT and I feed 4 1/4 sheets , half in the morning and half in the afternoon when I get home from work to help with aggression on 2 clips.

At a minimum I would think 2 sheets a day. 1 in the am and 1 in the pm.
With 12 tangs you should probably need to feed even twice that amount.
2 sheets in the am and 2 in the pm to keep aggression down and healthy.

Well dang, I feel bad now ha! More food from here-on it is, thanks everyone!

Also, thanks for the multiple clip idea, I just ordered some more magnet ones.

How big are the sheets your feeding? Dimensions?

LOL, that is the key question isn’t it ....

I feed 81 1”x 1” sheets to my tank about every day. Lasts 10 minutes, sometimes less.

I use the two little fishes nori sheets in the bulk pack and then cut them up in 4th's for reference.

First off tangs will eat you out of house and home so I highly recommend not buying any pet brand nori. Its laughable the pet stores sell a pack of 8 half sheets for ~$8-10. Even bulk packs of Sprungs Nori tend to be $38-50 on Amazon when they are available. They do have 100 full sheets of green or purple down to 38 now but you can get 200 sheets of this from Amazon. I did just look and they are out of stock right now on 200 but you can usually find the unseasoned raw also in 100 packs. This stuff wet is a mix of green and red. The important points are unroasted and unseasoned.

I'm out of town a lot so I usually give my powder blue and purple 4-5 sheets folded up into a square on a clip. Even when home I give at least 2-3 folded at a time. The folding to about 2x2" bundle keeps them from wasting it and its lasts for days. Secret is open a package and don't seal it so it gets and stays soft and not crumbly. My tangs, along with angels and others have been eating this stuff for years.

Thanks, I always get mine from my local asian market, but just ordered a 100 sheet pack of yours to see how those compare.

just put some of your recommendation in. it is so fragile compared to the roasted nori! good advice to not seal it.

What is everyone using to feed nori? I have two tangs and a flame angel (even my large clown eats it). My clown and tomini tang are very aggressive when getting the nori and rip it right off the clip causing large pieces to float around the tank and not get consumed. Really looking for a better way for them to graze over time.

I got the same problem with my two tangs and my coral beauty. But the Sailfin Tang is the one that goes and rip the nori out of the clip everytime.

I just crush up small amounts in my hand and throw it in the tank. It floats on the top and spreads around - plenty for all. When I got my hippo tang, first fish in the tank, it was the size of a nickel. It wouldn't eat from a clip so I started feeding it like you would flake food and he gobbled it up. It's now about 6" and housed with some pretty aggressive triggers and 2 large saddleback clowns (who also eat nori). I think having it spread across the surface of the tank let's everyone get some.

Lately I have been holding it in my hand until it gets a little soft and then rubbing my fingers together to make small pieces so that all of the fish can get some. Just don't like having my hands in the tank that much so only do it once or twice a week. Would like a better option.
