Please tell us the size of your tank and the # of gallons you replace daily or weekly on average.

How does it change daily/ based on weather/ seasons.

I am trying to get a sense of what % of a tank evaporates normally in a day throughout the year. Thanks

50 gallons with a 16 gallon sump (I believe) and I use ~5 gallons per week with a screen lid.

*edit as per Flippers4pup's post*
Tank temperature is between 79.5 and 80 degrees, room temp is 82 and 43% humidity

That's going to be very difficult to relate anyone else's experience to your own experience with a tank you have evaporation wise. It's highly dependant on numerous factors.

•Relative humidity in the room in
which the tank is in.
•The total water volume.
•Tank water temperature.
•Basement sump or not.
•Sump covered or not.
•DT has a cover or canopy.

The amount of evaporation will vary on these factors.

125g tank with 20 or so gallon sump. I keep the house at 70° year around and go through 5 gallons every 3 days.

Agree it will vary. But about 1% per day is normal.

112g tank (total volume). No lid or canopy to limit evaporation.
65g RODI reservoir.

About 2g of water replaced per day due to evaporation in the summer.
(very low ambient humidity in the desert)

My usage changes drastically as I use the fan at a higher speed in warmer weather but with a total volume of probably 230 and a 10 gallon ATO its probably 2 gallons per day. However a lot of people don’t take into account what their skimmers pull out too. My 2 skimmers probably do a pint a day combined included in that 2 gallons.

Being in the northeast, I should expect more evaporation in the winter due to dryness correct?

Typically yes. Cold climates in the fall/winter time can be dry.

My advice is this, a ATO reservoir shouldn't be any bigger than what your tank + sump can hold. In other words, if the ATO reservoir would dump it's contents all at once into the system, it wouldn't cause a flood.

Not everyone can do this, but it's a goal to aim for.

what is it when fan is off and what is it when fan is on? seasonal variation? Thanks!

Very good advice. Twice in 12 years I've had an ATO stick on and dump all the water into my sump. I top off with kalk so it can cause an issue of not enough oxygen. Lost half my fish the last time. Luckily I keep less than can fill my sump in the container so I've never flooded.

90 gallon standard dimensions. I use 1.5 gallons per day . No sump but I have desk fans cooling the aquarium and canopy.( metal halides )

I have a 10 gallon AIO and one gallon lasts about 10 days.

60 gallon with sump and protein skimmer goes through 5 gallons in about 6 days.

both tanks have screen tops
And evaporation changes based on season and AC use.

My 120 with 40 breeder sump uses 1 gallon a day in the winter and 2 gallons a day in the summer, give or take.
I run a 10" fan on the sump in the summer which accounts for the doubling.
No heater in the summer and a 150 watt in the winter.
Tank runs 79-80°.

Open top tank and sump. Average about 5% of total water volume per week (a little more in summer and a little less in winter).
