How much salt do i use

I believe the bag says 1 cup of salt for every 2 gallons of water you are making. I usually start out with a little less then the recommended amount and then after it has mixed for a while I will check it with a refractometer and then add more salt if needed. Easier to add more salt then to take it out. Anyway look on the salt box/bag and it should have all the info you need.

Do you mean before the sand goes in the tank? Or while it's already in there?
If you mean beforehand, I put my sand in an old tank, it holds like 2 or 3 gallons or something a bucket would work too. I put it in the laundry sink and run tap water through it and stir it with an aquarium net till it runs clear and there's no floaty bits in the water, then do it all again a second time for the same length of time. So when it runs clear that's only half way.
It cleans beach sand up pretty well, more than clean enough to use, so it will clean proper reef aragonite sand really well and quickly I assume :)
