planning on doing a 10 gallon water change today in my 55g tank, the salt level in tank is .020.. what level off salinity should I make the fresh RODI water to raise the level in DT to .024? using 2 five gallon bucks for the change.

I wouldn't raise it that much that fast. Stability is more important than perfect numbers and running a tank at 1.020 won't kill anything.

Slowly raise the salinity over a series of water changes that are 1.025-1.026 SG.

Agree with this :) If you jump up the salinity to fast you're likely to suffer casualties. Mix up the saltwater to what you want the level to be, and it'll slowly raise to that over the course of several water changes :)

Agreed.

ok thanks all

I suggest doing whatever normal water changes you do (matching the tank salinity if you do pretty big changes at once), and just swap the top off to salt water. :)

Right from the man..

Just prepare your new water for water changes at the target salinity. Over time (and enough water changes), your DT salinity will come up to the desired number.

Do you run an ATO?

If so you can simply add SW to the ATO and it will gradually increase salinity as it top up evaporation. It’s a fairly simple calculation to determine what weight of salt you want to add, and you can add that in one or more batches to your ATO to gradually raise salinity over a week or more. This is what I do in my QT when introducing new fish.
