Depending on the brand of salt, 1/2cup per gallon should make 35ppm or 1.026.

What ever brand salt you purchase will have mixing directions on it.
Use a good temperature compensating refractometer and add salt until you get to 35 ppt.

What is your source for water?
Do you have a mixing station set up?

If you get salt in bucket from Marine Depot they take the bag out of the bucket and put it in a shipping box and ship it to you. No bucket, no instructions no nothing.
Really? That wouldn't fly with me, how do you know it's even what you ordered?

My thoughts exactly!! It even has bucket on my shipping order.

Just make sure you are measuring the salinity level after adding and mixing the salt. Never assume the ratio of salt to water using measuring cups is going to give you the ~1.026 range you need.
Also, if you plan on ordering salt, make sure you get enough to cover the water changes that will be necessary early on.

That would upset me even more, they have batch analysis available online for that salt, but you need the lot number. Did you contact them about it?
