how much sand for a 300?

Just about to set up a 300 gallon tank, from a 135.... and I am not sure how much sand I should use. I don't want a "deep" sand bed....but like maybe 2- 2.5 inches? Unless there's a reason to add more?
also, Thinking about Pink Fiji....
any opinions would be appreciated!
