How much should you feed your fish?

I have 9 fish. They seem to be CONSTANTLY hungry.

Currently I have:
Racoon Butterflyfish
Yellow Tank
Carribian Tang
3 Chromies
2 Clown (orange)
Blue Tang (Dori Fish)

(These fish were picked out by children and then ordered by someone who runs an online fish business. I was told that they would be ok together AND that I wouldn't have to many fish in my tank.)


I currently feed them Brine Shrimp twice a day and seaweed everyother day. They will not eat the pellets or flakes.

Any suggestions?

I only feed my fish once a day and in my other tank every other day and they are all fat and happy. I'm not fish expert but fish always seem to act hungry, kinda like a dog how it will eat every time you feed it but doesn't mean he needs it. My fish beg for food every time I'm at the tank

Well brine shrimp aren't the most nutritional foods, so that might help explain why they seem hungry all the time. Try mixing in some mysis, plankton, krill or other more nutritional foods. You can try soaking the foods in garlic to encourage them to give it a shot.

I feed my fish every other day 2 cubes of frozen food thawed in a strainer. Usually a mix of Spirulina enriched brine, mysis, krill, plankton, emerald entree. I occasionally will toss in some flakes or pellets on the off days. My fish know when its feeding time, and they seem to know who feeds them. They will all come to the front of the tank when its me, but not for other people.

Your feeding schedule sounds perfect. The next time you pick up food, try to find some mysis shrimp and feed that instead of brine. I've had problems in the past with malnourished fish when feeding non-enriched brine shrimp.. there's not a lot to it.

Fish are pigs they will eat untill they pop. I only feed once a day with a variety of foods. I put a little in at a time so it gets eaten before it hits the bottom. They probaly feed about 3-4 minutes. You have to be carefull and watch your water parameters so that you don't have excess nutrients which will cause algae problems.

I will try a variety of food and see if that helps. They just beg everytime I walk by the tank. My son gets the giggles because they follow me.

I feed a mix of brine, mysis, formula 1 and formula 2 once a day, and seaweed every other day. When feeding only add a little bit at a time and make sure the fish are eating all of it before you add more. I do this with a turkey baster, and thaw the froze food in a cup of tank water.

I will try the turkey baster. I generally have a custard dish that I put tank water in to thaw my shrimp. Then i pour in a little at a time. I do put the pellets in once a week because the electric blue crabs seem to 'run' to it.

The way to think about it is there stomach is the size of one eye. That's it. They are really designed to eat continuously. They will push undigested food if they get over fed. The best is, feed enough to fill their stomach a couple of times a day. Baring that once a day is best, that gives the food time to digest.

I have a 75 gallon tank.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but your tangs and the butterfly ALL require a tank about twice that big.

If they're all small juvi's right now, you might get away with it for a while, but this won't work as their permanent home.
