How much vinegar to break in a skimmer?

I bought a new skimmer, and currently have it running in a ten gallon tank with a quart of vinegar, and probably 9 gallons of water. Wondering if I should go get more vinegar?

Secondly, I've never broke in a skimmer this way, but it will be replacing a unit currently in service, so it needs to be ready to work when I do the switch. How long should I let it run in the solution before making the switch?

An hour or two should be fine. Your system will be fine for a couple of days without running a skimmer. Dont worry that your new skimmer isnt pulling gunk right away

You use the vinegar to clean the skimmer from any manufacturing residue that might be left over. You break in the skimmer by running it in your tank for a period of time to allow a slime coat to form on the inside walls of the skimmer. Most skimmers come with instructions on how to specifically break it in and i would follow them. For instance my vertex requires you to run it without the collection cup and so that bubbles cascade over the side of it for a period of time.

I didn't see any instructions. In fact any instructions that it did come with, they said to go online and look, which I didn't. It's OK, I ran it in that solution for a few hours, cleaned it up, and put it in my sump last night. It's not bubbling over and I know it's gonna take a few days for the slime coat to build up. It is what it is. I just thought I would ask. Thanks
