Brand new reefer, here.

My dad and I just setup up my new Red Sea 170 Deluxe. The instructions say that the system holds 43 gallons, but after adding 41 it seems like it's already too much water. My dad thinks the instructions are for a completely empty setup, but we added 40 lbs of live sand which would probably displace a few gallons?

Anyway, we're just cycling and know any excess will evaporate in no time, but how do I know when it's full?

Attached pictures should clarify what I'm asking.

Water to high. The white thing is a float ball. Should be floating on top. Drain out some

That's too full. The float valve should not be totally submerged. The sump should have a few inches less of water. The emergency overflow will have a trickle going in it.

And the water volume is dry calculations, before sand and rock

Sorry, also wanted to say hi and welcome to the forum.Glad you are heard

Just wanted to get the post to drain some out up quick. I am not familiar w the Red Sea, but not you are right it needs to be lower.

The water level in the tank should be just high enough it spills thru the black fins into the box. And the white ball underneath should be floating.

Thank you!

The water should be about the height of the triangle behind the float. In the tank it should just barely trickle into the emergency drain. That's an adjustment of the big round valve on the drain line, has nothing to do with the water height in the sump.
