How much water should be in my sump

So I’ve been struggling a couple days because my auto fill box on my reefer Red Sea 350 deluxe seems to not be working. The float is just so low under water that it doesn’t trigger. I’ve been raising and lowers the water level in my sump but the amount id have to make the float work is just too much in y option. Refer to the pictures below and let me know what you guys think. Im really stumpped. Even bought a replacement float thinking that was the issue.

Hi There I have the Red Sea 250 plus the Red Sea skimmer. The skimmer valve control knob has a sticker on it which shows how high your sump water should be. Aim for that I guess. The float valve may be adjustable (your valve looks different from mine), so play around with that. When the level in the return pump chamber is too low, and not being replenished by the ATO, your pump will likely feed bubbles back into the tank, showing that your float valve needs a slight adjustment. One last thought - the float valve can easily be blocked by detritus, a grain of sand etc - easily dismantled and check inside. My float valve has been blocked twice in 10 months. Hope this helps…

I don’t like the included ball/float valve that came with both my RS tanks. I added a Hydrofill top off with magnet tips that works perfect! I added a small pump in reserve to make it pump in.

I added the piece of PVC to hold the soft water line to make sure it went in the sump correctly and help it not create continuous down flow.

Side note- my water level is the same as yours in your picture. It’s just enough to not run over the back chamber where the return and UV pumps are and forces the water to run thru the black filter/sponge between the chambers.

wow I feel stupid. This helps a lot. The sticker is MUCH lower than I ever thought it could be. But now the water in the return pump chamber with the green tube is very low.

There should be a chamber for the skimmer but of not, the skimmer is in a high level of water which should be Up to 8" and you may have to elevate skimmer with a skimmer stand, or make one with egg crate or utilize a small utility basket from a dollar store as a stand

I have 2 redsea tanks a 170 and a 300g2. For skimmers I have a reef octo in one and bubble magus in the other. I had to raise them both up and used egg crate. I also ditched the stock float style ato. The reservoirs were to small for me and took up too much space in the sump area.

Hmm. I have not found water level adjustment as user friendly as I thought. Admittedly I have the Reefer G2 tank. So, firstly I filled the sump to the indicated level, then turned on the return pump and after a few minutes the skimmer. This way I could then adjust the skimmer to give the required level of bubbles in the skimmer neck. Whenever I do anything not in that order, then the skimmer will overflow, or produce no skimmate. I do not worry about the level in the return pump chamber as the ATO will come into play when that level drops. The return pump chamber level will not be the same as in the sump, but finds it own slightly lower (I think) level. Sorry if I have not helped, but this is my experience.

Not the answer you asked but I see that your skimmer is sitting too deep in the sump. Look at the instructions manual to set the correct depth. You may need to stack something under it to get the correct depth. It has something to do with head pressure and proper bubble formation.
