How much weight can this table hold????

It’s not really a matter of money, it can’t be a different table. Like this is my option. I could go buy a

your correct, it’s this and only this for a table. I’ve got my nice big reef in the basement but wanted a nice smaller setup in our formal living room. She agreed as long as it could sit on the pictures table with ZERO modifications. It’s the “pretty” room so there’s zero compromises on table design or choice….. it’s that or nothing.

Hard to argue with her; you already have a reef tank in the basement.

If that’s solid wood it’s going to hold a lot. @Nathan Bertsch looking At the picture of the underside can you confirm those blocks aren’t carrying the weight of the top but just holding it in place? I wouldn‘t hesitate to put 20-30G on it — probably more if I was confident in the materials.

Agree with above. Loc tite every screw. Maybe even some liquid nails. Add in a cross brace underneath where not visable

Good idea! I could glue it all together and then also run lock tite on everything.

You could also reinforce the supports around the perimeter by gluing and clamping some 1x3 to the existing support. It is a discrete modification, so the table will look the same when done.

You can definitely make this table work as a stand.

Yep! I’ve got a 8x4x2 in the basement. But it would be nice to have something upstairs. Not huge but something nice to look at when relaxing

it’s a solid top. Those blocks are just there to add in holding the top in place. The top primarily is supported at the corners and the top braces that go around the perimeter. Tank would be acrylic and I’d set it on neoprene base.

That must be some tank. You should set up a build thread on it.

I would add some hidden reinforcements underneath and add lock tight to the bolts so they don’t get loose. Shouldn’t be an issue. But I’d say a 24” cube (60g) would be probably max your going to fit on that table. I personally wouldn’t go bigger then that.

I’ve had it setup for about 5 years now.

Fantastic tank! Thriving!!
Yeah I take about a 5 gallon bucket of frags out every couple months…… it’s kinda become a pain!!!!!! I mean it grows so fast it’s really become a chore to thin it out!

Gosh I had ordered a 20x20x18 tank over the weekend but was thinking about upgrading that to a 26x24x18 and make it the size of the tabletop….. but maybe after reading all these comments I should stick to the 20x20x18. Gosh there’s just no manual on this stuff and I’d hate to come home to a tank on the floor….. which would mean divorce or death;-)

I mean petco sells these dinky metal stands for 55 gallon aquariums and they look like 3% as strong as this thing….. but I’m not a engineer, and am basically dumb!
Going by the tank you just showed your not dumb. You might feel dumb if that table fails.

As an engineer (although a chemical), each of those legs can probably carry over a thousand pounds each. Wood is extremely strong in compression. Swaying could be a concern, but it looks pretty well built to me - better than most any aquarium stand I have seen offered for sale. The table is not going to collapse. The top looks pretty thick and it is only 24"x26" so it is not a long span and with an acrylic tank you should be even better. You should be fine supporting a 26x24x18 tank on it, although I think it would be a little more attractive if you left a 1-2" rim around the front and side of the tank for appearances sake. My biggest concern with using furniture is that the inevitable spills and salt creep can destroy the finish, and in really bad situations it can start to destroy some types of wood products. The wife may not be happy with that.

Could always go for one of these.

I’ve got one! Got it at Macna San Diego!
