how often are u dosing mag

Nope. That's only possible if the water changes are the sink for magnesium. At 1 dKH of alk per day, magnesium consumption will be well below 1 ppm per day.
What else could be the possible explaination ? I only do water changes once every two weeks and these results of usage has been pretty consistent even between water changes

Hi Randy,
Thanks for the feedback, if I boosted the salinity with my WC water, wouldn't that alter the total salinity in my tank?

Is it helpful to boost the mg if I dose the mg in the SW that I use for WC or is no different than I dose to the tank directly?

There is none. Magnesium is NEVER consumed rapidly. It is always about 1/10th of calcium consumption, or less. :)

Testing error is, however, quite common.

I actually meant raising the salinity in the tank.

As to dosing the new salt water, that is the plan I did for many years. I added a fixed amount every time. I never dosed the tank, and never needed to measure magnesium. :)

I have not dosed mag in years my weekly water changes was handling it and holding around 1350-1400 so I had hit up Randy about not having to dose mag after our talk I decided to test my mag and it was at 1260 to my surprise so now I dose 20ml twice a week to stay at 1320.
