How often do you blow your rocks off?

I have not blow off my rocks in any of my tanks. With 2 MP40's at each end and a MP10 and a modded Tunze 6015 blowing along the back of the rocks in my 120g. I have a pretty good amount of flow going in there. I may have to do it on my next water change to see what comes out.

I clean mine off every week when I do my water change. I use a pump and hose to get the fresh water in, so just direct the water in and around the ricks to get most if it cleaned off and in the water column. I leave sine for the cuc to get.

At water changes. Turn off the pumps, blow the rocks, let it settle low, siphon water out close to the sand bed.

I usually do it at every water change.

I would blow off the rocks prior to siphoning water out. That way I can get some of the detritus as I'm changing water.

I have a modded maxi Jet I use. I turn all pumps off and blow everything off real well, then I put the Pump on the front of the glass (pointing toward the back glass at a slight downward angle) the night before I go to bed. The next morning I wake up and any crap is on the front of the tank on the bottom so its super easy to syphon out the next morning when I do a WC.

My cuc keeps my rock squeaky clean.

I blow mine out about once a month.

I think that the people saying nightly is excessive, I don't think that they mean t is a bad thing, just that they feel it is not necessary to do it that much.

I'll usually do it at least once a week. If I have a filter sock in, I'll do it a couple of times a day. I get a lot of dust settling in the holes and crevices. It tends to be a fine dust, very rarely does anything else come out of the rocks.
I have only been dosing carbonate to maintain alkalinity and pH. I am not sure if it is precipitating out of solution and settling on the rocks. My calcium and magnesium test kits should have come in today, so I should be able to start tracking things better and get an idea for what is going on. I may move where the top-off water is added as I think part of the issue may be that the sodium carbonate that is precipitating out does not have a chance to settle out before entering the tank. But I will be switching to adding calcium hydroxide to the top-off water, so this may not be an issue (or may become a bigger one).

Well I never did until today. I've been fighting my caulerpa farm for a year or better now, no way to get it all out and too much for my tangs to handle. Most of my SPS was overgrown and has been removed over he past several months. I've got a nutrient issue somewhere and I was shocked at how much gunk was in my rock, corals, etc... Mind you I have 2 Tunze 6100s, and two 6105s in the tank currently. Well I used one of them today to create a storm, and the tank turned opaque. This is going to be a regular event over the next few days, then at every H2O change. Today I blew it all out and it seems I collected a lot of the detritus in a sock which I switched out as soon as the tank had cleared, and my skimmer cleared a bunch of stuff out as well. I though I had pretty good flow, but found I have lots of areas for detritus to settle that may actually be a big part of my problems. Definitely adding this to my maintenance routine.
