How often do you calibrate your (Hanna) Ph meter?

I've been using this $15 one from Amazon and I have never calibrated it. It requires 4.01 PH solution. I have 7.01 and 10.01 currently. From what I understand the Hanna can use use either 4.01 and 7.01 or 7.01 and 10.01.

My PH has always read between 8 and 8.5 more or less.

I tested today with my "cheap" meter and Hanna meter at the same time. Cheap meter read 8.3 Hanna read 8.6. Calibrated the Hanna and it read 8.0.

I figured either way it will work it will just be consitantly off? Or at least I'd hope.

How often do you realisticly calibrate yours and any other things that make a difference. I know Hanna' s manual reference using a certain solution to reactivate the meter if it's dry or something? What's that about and how do I know if I need to do that?

Most of my results below were with the cheap meter. I figure it at least gives a representation of stability?

If you do not use your meter online all the time (if you just put it on, measure and put it off) you should if you need accurate measurements at the fist decimal - calibrate every time you switch it on. However - this may not be pratical and if you store your electrode in storage solution during off time - you maybe can calibrate after 10 measurements. If I do not have a storage solution (normally 3 M KCL) - I use pH 7 solution as storage.

When you use an electronic device it is easy to be tricked into "safe mode" - IMO it is important to calibrate rather often.

Wait, you actually check PH? I have a PH probe on my apex, never calibrated it, and never look at it. PH in a closed house is what it wants to be, unless your using a CalRX.

I do. I check everything lol.

I actually have storage solution that came with the meter. So is there a right and wrong way to do this? Do I just place the PH meter in a cup with a small amount of the solution at the bottom?

I think he's talking about a pH probe and you're talking about a pH pen. I could be wrong but I don't think the pens have the drying out issue.
