How often do you clean your RODI container?

I have a 5 gal white jug for RODI. Doesn't smell bad. Can't really see anything inside of it that looks off. Been going for 3 full months now. Keep wondering when I should be giving it an acid bath...

If you are talking about the container that only holds rodi water, and not the mixing container, then I have never cleaned it. Been in use for 5 years so far.

A few years ago I had something contaminate mine . And perhaps not changing the cartridges .
The ato container had a chemical smell and not sure what it was .
I did empty it , clean with bleach , rinse and use
It’s been running ever since

I'll be making it a habit to clean mine at least every 3 months now. I did fine forever not cleaning it but as soon as I stopped paying attention I had a di cannister end up with a clear sludge in it that ended up in my ato.
I know what got me in the long run. I stopped changing my Cation di and allowing it to run longer than anion and mixed bed like I've see other folks posting about. Not worth it for me. All di will also be changed religiously together for now on together whether it's burnt or not. I'll also be cleaning my di cans every time I change resin.

Yeah our tap water is pretty nasty here. Anytime I've ever had a reefing issue it's almost always related to water quality so best to be totally obsessive about it now. Not sure I'd worry so much if I was starting with spring water though.

I am just keeping an eye on the RODI TDS and changing cartriges once it starts increasing from 0 to 1 and then 1 to 2, etc. I give the container a whiff to see if it smells. So far smells like a plastic carboy, so I assume that means keep on truckin'.

My ro chamber was slimy this time when I changed it. Cleaned it with dish soap and rinsed it like crazy to make sure the soap was all gone. Probably something safer would be better.

I am talking about the cannister that holds the RO membrane… it’s small and hard to clean without a scrubber of just the right size. I have read that the ro membranes can get fouled by bacteria (slime coat).

The brut can that stores the water... I never clean it. If I did, I would not use soap!

My mixing station includes (2) 65 Norwesco polyethylene tanks. I try to take the system down once a year to clean the saltwater mixing tank. Since I have it apart I usually clean the RO tank as well (not that it ever really needs it).

Well for me it depended upon the container. If it was clear, a lot more often than if it was not able to be seen through. In the case of it being necessary, I don't think it has to be cleaned often.

I used to change my pre-filters and membrane religiously once my membrane started pushing around 10-12ppm. This could happen much quicker during some months especially last year as we thought we could smell chlorine in the tap much more often than previous years.
My DI typically got changed when anion was burnt.
I'm going to try to stick to what I mentioned above because it was working. Just can't get complacent this time.
Best advice i could give anyone is just make it a habit and have a routine and stick to it because you never know. And clean your cans lol

In 20 years I never cleaned an RO/DI sotrage can (Brute). I also never saw anything it it that I could clean out even if I wanted to.

I’ve never cleaned my rodi storage container and I’ve only cleaned my saltwater storage container once, even though it is coated in stuff from Reef Crystals salt.

di resin gets expensive

I’ve never done it but I know di resin can be replenished with some readily available chemicals. I looked into doing it once but I really don’t go through enough di resin to be worth it. If you regularly have to change your resin it may be worth looking into.

I have really low water pressure also “35psi” so I run a booster pump… now that my water pressure is 85psi I get 7-8 after my membrane and of course zero after a dual mixed di resin bed. I buy the cheaper mixed resin off of Amazon it seems to work well and gives me close to 800 gallons before I gotta change it out.. pre-filters I change if I notice any yellowing. 5-6 months
