Looking at different tanks sizes and dimensions, it occurred to me that some of the deeper tanks might be hard to work in or reach the bottom. So, how often do you really end up messing around in the tank? I would imagine quite a bit in the beginning, but not so much after the tank is established?

Thanks,

Keith

I usually have my hands in the tank almost every week. Especially when cleaning my tank. Even my tank is established I still messing around with the tank.

Definitely height and depth of the tank can make it difficult to clean some areas.

What size tank were you thinking of getting?

I think if you have corals you do go in there quite a bit because of spot feeding and moving to better locations and propogation.
I have to use a 2 step step stool to get into my tank and reach the bottom. Not fun.

My tank is 48x24x16. It's just shallow enough to where the water line is just above my elbow. I don't think I'd ever go deeper than 20-24" or so.

carbon dosing as with vodka How is that working I have been thinking of trying that how much do you use? and how big is your tank? Sorry for hijacking the thread lol

Thanks for the info everyone. It appears that the type of tank we go with could have a large impact on how often we need to go inside it?

Well, the area we have for the tank is 48" long and I dont' think we'd want to go any more then 24" wide. We have about 11' ceilings, so the depth of the tank is not an issue space wise. My concern is getting to the bottom of what we choose. I'm still trying to research tanks that would fit in that area, but one of the LFS has a 90 gallon tank and stand that would fit there nicely:

The height of the stand/tank combo of that one seems like it might be a PITA to deal with.

Is this what you are talking about? just kidding. I try to stay out of the tank as much as possible, pumps and skimmer never get turned off. 1% daily water changes and cleaning of skimmer are all completed with the system running.

I try not getting my hands in my tank no more than I have to.Most of the time it is atleast once a week.

I think that's the first mermaid tank I've seen!!

Our tank is still fairly new, so our hands are in there at least 3-4 days out of the week. A lot of it is rearranging fallen coral plugs, and trying to find a more snug spot so it wont happen again.
