How often do you mix up new food?

I use a combination of foods/supplements/etc. to make up "fish goo". We blend this all together and then put in into silicone candy molds and freeze it. Then I use the cubes each day to feed; just toss them in the magnetic thawer.

Weekly I make up a batch of "fresh fish goo"... mostly the same ingredients, except it doesn't get blended or frozen. I put it in a small tupperware container and keep it in the fridge. Then if I don't feed the frozen cubes I'll shake up the fresh stuff and squirt in 2-3ML.

Each batch of the fresh stuff is enough to feed the tank for about a week. Part of me is worried that I shouldn't keep it around for a week and that I should make even smaller fresh batches more often.

Thoughts? What do other people do?

I have the same concerns when I go on vacation and have our cat & tank sitter feed every other day. I make small pill minder cases of dry food. But I mix up some frozen food with liquid food and put it in a small bottle and keep it in the fridge. The sitter uses 1/3 or 14 of the liquid mix each feeding. But I worry a bit about the mix being in the fridge for 5 to 7 days before it's all used.

I normally mix food for each feeding when I'm home.

It would be ideal if I could feed my fish freshly prepared food every day. But I'm not retired, and not hiring a fish chef (maybe I should contract myself out as one...). But as long as the "fish goo" doesn't start to smell like off fish, then you should be fine.

I'm planning on just making mini batches like you do, but once I get the ratio done, I'll be able to figure out how many frozen shrimp/clams/fish/squid to pull out of the freezer each week, and then feed accordingly, that way I can minimize wastage.

I mix about 6-7 pounds of shrimp, cod, salmon, mussles, clams, tilapia, and squid with 100 sheets of nori. Add garlic and some vitamins. Smear it out on cookie sheets, freeze, then cut into chunks. Lasts me about 6 months.

I just but frozen seafood when its on sale.

I use premade cubes right now. I thaw 2 cubes + 10ml tank water + 1/2 tsp Roids + 5 drops of Selcon. I store it in my fridge and give 1/4 tsp morning and evening. This adds up to one batch of thawed food last 3 days.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to keep making batches but maybe try and make a little less. So instead of 6-7 days I'll have to make it every 3-4.

I guess I should have asked people how many times a day they feed, and how much, as well. I've been feeding 2.5-3.0 ml using a syringe two or three times a day. Every other day or so I also put 3 pieces (about 1" x 2.5") of seaweed on a clip (green, red, purple).
