How often should you feed a fish in QT that is eating readily. Have a sailfin that eats whatever i put in like a pig. But there has to be a limit... and a minimum. Whats everyones thoughts?

It depends on the fish and their condition. If the fish is happy, healthy and having no problems, then feed once or twice a day but only enough so that they eat it all within 3 or so minutes and very little settles to the bottom of the tank.

If they are in poor health and very skinny, then you'll want to feed as much and as often as they will eat. Sometimes feeding only a very little until they start eating reliably.

Your biofilter will need to be capable of handling the amount of feeding you need to do. Siphoning the extra food off the bottom and doing extra water changes may be needed to balance this out.

Thanks for the quick response @melypr1985 and very informational. Ill keep up feedimg regiment since biofilter is keeping up with 1"×.5" sheet of nori as well as flakes and pellets once daily respectively. Since he seems to clean his plate so to speak. No matter what i feed him no leftovers.

No problem! Just remember, lots of food leads to lots of poop. Keep that siphoned out and you'll be just fine :)

The species of fish you are QT'ing also comes into play.

Low metabolism species - clowns, chromis, cardinalfish, angels, etc. - can be fed just 1x daily.

However, high metabolism species - tangs, rabbitfish, wrasses, anthias, etc. - need to be fed at least 2x daily or with mandarins even more often.

Did not know this. Learn something new every day.

Was hoping youd chime in on this one. Thanks for the info! Will keep that in mind. After 15 years of no QT gotta do it nowadays it seems.
