how old is/are your BTA('s)?

any split? if so, how long did it take and do you think it was stress related or it's just that time?

yup, I know, I know, another BTA thread.. :hammer:

my oldest is a year and a half and split under stress when hurricane irene hit us and i had to move my tank. my newest was in its owners possession for five years

My hello nasty is part of a nem that is 6 years old. My clone is new but it has split/been cut numerous times. Splitting is kinda hit and miss. I have heard it's primarily stress related. A tried and true method is feeding well every other day for a month, then do a 50% water change. Should start the split for you.

thanks guys.

I've been on the lookout for some captive raised BTA's locally so hopefully, I can find some unique ones. my current BTA's aren't big enough to split or are they? LoL. what size are they before they can split? maybe around 6"+?

I have had mine RBTA for 5 years now.It split for the first time after 2 years.

Seems like the two new RBTA's I got are both showing signs of splitting. I'll give em a few days to do their thing. ;)

Here is one i did..

My GBTA is about 2.5 years old and has split twice. The first time was during a tank swap, so I'm pretty sure that it was stress related, but the second time I think it just happened naturally. My RBTA is about a year and a half and has split once naturally.

i hve 2...
1st one i got from mike i guess about 5 months ago and it was less than 1 1/2"...i fed him every day and now its about little over 5 inches across...
2nd is from josh and i got it about a month ago...it came big about 7 inches wide...:xd:

had mine for roughly 3 years..got it when it was abour 2 1/2"..Now its 10+"

Most definitely, I have heard that although bta propogate asexually, they actually have sexes. The females are the btas that get huge while the males stay relatively small, even without splitting. Not positive on this though.

I've read the same. so I hope I have the splitting ones. ;)

my goodness... I just saw a RBTA field! I visited a local that have had a morph of RBTA (no green) since 2004. and man, what an inspiration. he must've had a hundred or so of them. it was hard to get a pic of the RBTA field as the current tank that houses the RBTA's is set up to view top down only.

here was his 90g when it was set up though. as you can see, this was from 2009.
