Good morning! I’m going through a fallow period with only cuc in my tank. I want to add some corals at the appropriate time which will be before my fallow period ends.

My concern is corals on frags or rocks that are housed in systems with fish. How likely is it for one of these corals to “house” the encysted stage of certain parasites? Are there any known retailers that house corals with fish less systems anyone would suggest? I’d hate to start my fallow period over because of introducing a coral. Thanks.

There is always a risk you take when introducing new fish/coral/inverts into your system. I would say on coral frags you run a bigger risk of coral pests or vermited snails etc than fish parasites. Either way your best bet is to quarantine, even corals.

People use a Coral Quarantine system for this reason. My process
1. buy corals in large groups
2. Remove bases
3. dip in Bayer
4. dip in Coral RX
5. mount on new plugs
6. put in Coral QT tank for 78 days
7. put in main display

There is only one vendor I skip the QT tank procedure but everything else I do.

nothing wrong with being cautious.

Thanks for the info. Might need to try that method.

I’ll be getting my fish from marine collectors so I have my bases covered on that front. Just to be clear are you saying there’s one coral vendor you feel safe with not putting them in QT? And if so could could you give me there contact information or website link? Thanks again.

I think ich is just part of the hobby and no matter what we do there is always risk of introducing it
