Just a thought... I was watching a youtube video from fragbox TV, they import a bunch of corals from indo australia etc... I always notice that when they get shipments in, they are practically throwing them around lol. They cut the bags open, throw them in the dip, and then throw them on the egg crates under full lights. AND THEIR CORALS LOOK AWESOME!?!?! I dont think anything they're doing is wrong, I just do things differently.

When I bring corals home from the LFS, I drive slower, I drip acclimate them, I acclimate them to the light, and overall I handle them super gently. And if i bump them on a rock or the glass, they're all ticked off?

Since i've started reefing I have always wondered, how "rough" can you be with coral ???

i play mine classic rock on the ride home. ;)

You have to consider that no matter how rough you are you're not rougher than UPS/ FEDEX that tosses that box around like a football through miles of conveyor belts. When they're collected from indo you'll also find that they're somewhat rough as far as collection etc. As long as its a short time event and not daily I think its fine

You've taken me down memory lane. I have been in and out of salt water fish keeping over the years.
mid 70s into mid 80s - fish only, coral was "impossible."
mid 90s - coral was now possible, but we treated them like faberge eggs.
Then I took a long hiatus.
Recently resumed saltwater fish keeping only to find corals are being chopped up with ban saws, cut with bone cutters, broken into pieces, and still thriving.

"Can" and "should" are two different things. I'm pretty delicate with my coral too. There are a ton of things we do either intentionally or accidentally that kill coral. Handling mine carefully is just one thing I do to try to help reduce the risk of me killing my coral.

That said, I'm not perfect. I have acros survive being dropped on the floor (more than once), getting knocked off of rocks and/or pinned between the glass and a piece of rock that fell, and more. I even had a frogspawn survive almost 48 hours in a non-climate controlled box (it was still bagged up) in my recycling in the garage bin because it came in a bulk order and I never took it out. So they can be pretty durable and take a beating (they survive a good deal in the ocean too). But I've also killed corals by doing less, so I'm probably more careful than I need to be.

I've always wondered this too. I drive them home like they are my newborn child coming home from the hospital for the first time
Haha I do the same. I often make my girlfriend hold the bag while we drive so it doesnt slosh around... probably super unnecessary, but I still think its good for her!

This is what I do if it helps

From the LFS they go into a glass jug in the LFS water and some coral dip for about 15 minutes or until I get bored of waiting

Then they go into the tank at the bottom

They stay there for a few days or weeks to acclimatise until I decide we’re they will live.

That’s it
