I've been searching for info on how deep to make a shallow sand bed, but (while I find a ton of info on DSB's), I can't seem to find anything on ideal depths for shallow sand beds. I know this seems like a noob question, but all I've run on previous systems was DSB's, and I've decided that on the new set up, I'd like to stay shallow.

I'll be using mesoflakes by Tropic Eden in a 50g (24" x 24" x 20"). I'm planning to have a diamond goby (I think that's the only one on my stock list that needs sand).

Please feel free to share what you know, what you've done, and pics of tanks. Thanks!

Thanks. I'm seeing that a 30lb. bag should give me about 1.5 inches (using a substrate calculator). Does that sound about right?
I think it sounds about right if anything it would be around 1 inch.
