Ok so i just recieved a fairly large ($350) zoa/paly purchase, including a frag of 5 tub's blues. Now i can understand that some zoas are small, but these guys are TINY! all 5 polyps would fit side by side on the end of a standard pencil eraser.

Are these even Tub's? If so, at what point is it unethical to sell a polyp that is unlabeled size wise at 1/16-1/32 inch diameter at 9$ per?

I will try to get a pic ifi can

"Tubs" is a person....saying they are Tubs blue zoas suggests these came from a line directly from his........which is pretty impracticle to trace IMO.

I have seen dozens of different blue zoa morphs over the past 4 years.

leishman has some, i'm fairly certain he got them from copps who got them from tubs, i may be wrong. I got a frag of them from him recently, they are tiny, but also blue.

I believe they are true TUB's, traced via Zoafrags.com

hardly ever have any in, when they do they aren't cheap.

actually.....thats not a very reliable source IMO....i won't say anything more than that.

so let me put it this way......are they still Tubbs blue zoas...if you collect a wild colony of blue zoas from a whole saler? and cut it up and then sell the smaller frags as Tubbs blue zoas?

this is JMO...I guess I disagree in how the name was labelled on ZoaID, as that has become kinda misleading to allot of people.

If a certain variant is named after the original importer, i believe that either all line produced directly through the original import OR all verified and agreed upon SAME variant collected in the wild is rightly called the same name.

My Tubs are small also but they grow fast. Chocolate brown skirt and nice blue color. Mine prefer to be in the shade.

I got mine from Juan Carlos a couple years ago...never checked to see if he had lineage though. They are pretty small, and lighting/parameters seems to make a big difference on polyp size.

Tubs are very small zoanthids, sounds perfectly normal to me.

5 polyps of mine when fully extended would cover a pencil eraser, but not by much.

Tub's is also a confirmed zoanthid name, named after Tub's b/c he was the first to name them.

Eponyms are common in this hobby.

For example, owning a Rainfordi goby doesn't mean it came straight from Rainford's tank.

yes...but when Tubs blue zoas first hit the scene back in 2004, it always meant that if you had Tubs blue zoas.....they came from the strain that originated with Tubs.

that got completely lost after they put it up on ZoaID as the only true blue zoa up there.......so now virtually all blue zoas are now called Tubbs blue zoas......which is just a name, which has completely destroyed the meaning of the original lineage.

we don't call every watermelon chalice that comes from the ocean.....a Tyree watermelon chalice. The Tyree part signifies a lineage IMO.

FWIW....this discussion came up over on RC before the days of CZ......and Tubbs chimed in and said that he only gave out 2 frags of his originally named blue zoas. so there is virtually a 90% chance that whoever claims lineage to Tubbs has no idea what they are talking about.

I got them from Ming @ Atlantis who got his from Tubs. Copps got his from me.

Lineage???? Are you all for real??? Do these things come with papers or something???? Not trying to be an butt but??? I have blues that look just like those that I got from a friend with a killer setup. THey grow like crazy too!! I'm sure they aren't Tubs' or whom ever but they are equally as pretty? If they look the same and you like them does it matter who's tank they came from??? Not to knock Tubs (I don't even know him) but aren't they Gods??? I don't do church either but I haven't seen any humans popping out Zoas or Acans??

Nice dogs gastone!!! They are beautiful!

i think its more about retaining color, because i have seen a ton of blue zoas lose their color and fade out very quickly but apparently tubs zoas always stay a bright blue
i dont really care if theyre real tubs or whatever, i just want bright blue zoas and when you say tubs blue you automatically think of a zoa that retains its brightness

Original Tubs are not tiny like Solomon blue zoanthids are ( what I think you guys are mistaking as Tubs)
I have a small colony and 5 of them 5 by side will cover a dime fully open
Where as the Solomon island zoos ( which are know to be small) are exactly what you guys are describing.

EDIT: Never mind th epics didn't load up and I didn't read all the above before posting

I have two types of blues . I hope you can tell the difference by my pics
