How to Add Sand to Running Tank?

I have 60 pounds of sand I'd like to add my to 400 gallon. I want to avoid clouding as much as possible and wondering what methods are the best way to do this. Thanks for any suggestions.

Gonna be a pain but you could use a tube to send the sand directly down to the bottom. Similar to how some people feed stingrays so other fish don't get the food first.

Curious why you're adding sand though? Currently cycling my tank as a bare bottom tank.

Rinse well first obviously. I would use a tube and funnel to prevent as much floating particles as possible. Other solution would be to freeze and add slowly. Once melted will be in place without causing a cloud. Just a bunch of sand ice cubes lol.

I rinse and pour it in to a thick mil bag and cut a hole in the corner and slide bag across bottom which releases sand with very little stirring up

I have it and I have some bare spots, I may just leave sympodium grow a mat over all the bare spots too.

I’ve heard of putting the bag into the tank on the bottom and cutting it open, slowly sliding it out of the bag.

Just a cup and slowly put in.

gets cloudy but will clear up. What’s the issue with the cloudiness for a temporary time

Rinse the bejeezus out of it before adding it to the tank.

Then I use a plastic scoop and, scoop by scoop add it to the tank getting the scoop as close to the bottom tank bottom before tipping the sand out. This keeps clouding to a minimum and ensures the new sand fills in where I want it to.

If I can't get it where I want it, I just get it close then use my hand or the tip of the scoop to push it.

If it's just dry sand, rinse and have at it. You can slowly add it over time to minimize cloudiness.

You can use a large diameter tube/pvc pipe and slowly pour it in so you minimize it traveling throughout the water column.
