This might sound funny, maybe I'm having a brain fart. Im thinking about installing an overflow to my aquarium and installing a sump but I can't figure out how im going to adjust the return to be enough for the over flow or vice versa. I don't want to end up with a over filled sump or tank. The over flow that im going to install is 400gpm Eshopps Nano for my 30 gallon reef.

I just don't k now how to control return to overflow.

HELP!

You use an overflow that can handle more water than your return pump pushes. They dont have to match. The overflow will only move water to the sump at the same rate as the return pump is pumping.

Does that make sense?

And you can add a gate valve on the siphon line to adjust the flow if needed.
With both the gate valve and the DC pump, you can dial it in exactly to match

Absolutely, use a gate valve for very fine tune adjustments. My system game with plumbing , only it came with a ball valve. Every time I did a water change I spent the entire day making adjustments for equalization to my sump.

Eventually I bought a gate valve and installed it after the ball valve. That way I was able to leave the ball valve open permanently. Best adjustment I could have ever done
