I am travelling out of country for a couple of weeks. To keep up with evaporation, I bought a large brute trash can to sub as my ATO reservoir. The problem is that the water level in it is above the water level in the sump, which leads to a siphon.

I am thinking of hanging my ATO pump (Tom's aqualifter) from the side of my DT and attaching the output near the overflow on the DT as well.

The sensors (from autotopoff.com) will still be in the sump and will measure evaporation properly.

This of course will be temporary.

Any one try this? Any help will be appreciated?

Maybe set a container up that sits a little higher that the brute water level. Have a drain from the temporary container that then drains into the sump.

Can you attach the end of the top off tubing higher in the sump? Mine is rubberbanded to my plumbing, higher than the top level of my 5 gallon ATO jug.

I agree with TexasReefer......I have my tubing attached as high as possible in the sump, with the ATO pulling from a Brute garbage can. Even a few inches can make a huge difference in stopping the siphon.

I think having the ATO line emptying into your DT, as long as there is an air gap between the bottom of the tube and the water level, would be your best, easiest set up for a short time period, and no need to buy anything but a longer tube.

All options are good, but involve purchasing more equipment. Your solution seems like a very simple temporary solution!

Hey guys. I put the ato line in the DT and it worked out great. Came back from a 2 week vacation with no loss !

Thank you !!!

Heres my setup. The black tube connects to the tunze pump at the bottom of the 50 gallon water container. The water comes up the tube and enters the large clear tubing which carries the water down into the sump. Back siphon is impossible with this setup!!
