I am thinking of blacking out my reef tank and I wanted to ask a few questions.
1. Should I put the coral in another tank?
2. If I take out the coral how long can it be blacked out?
3. What do I do with the fish?
4. If I leave in the coral how long can it be blacked?
Thank y'all.

1) Leave all coral in the tank.
2) You black out for max three days only.
3) Fish stays in the tank with corals.
4)See #3 for duration.

Now how do you blackout............. first of turn lights off during the off period, in that case they don't come on the next day if they are on a timer.
Cover the tank up with dark towels, if you have a screen on top that is great as it support the towels, if not lay something across that will support towels.
Leave all equipment running except your lights of course.
Don't feed fish or corals, no peaking at all time cause I'm checking on you ;)

Question though, why do you want to do a blackout?

Thank you for your quick response. I am battleing a losing battle to an assortment of algeas and I don't have room to run a reactor or a refugium on my nano so I am looking to get rid of some algae. Not a permanent fix but it's something.
