We just had our place sprayed by a professional and have had no side effects. But our bug man says his spray want hurt animals we leave our birds, dogs, cats, and fish all normal while he is spraying and everything. He’s sprayed our place probably 5 or 6 times and we’ve never had to worry about it

I would suggest call a pro, ours uses a natural product that does not affect the animals or fish.

fleas?

you could always put some plastic wrap over any open spots on the tank to help keep some of the mist from settling in your tank.

We prefer to use diatomaceous earth. It is a powder made out of diatoms. When the insect walks across it, the powder cuts into their exoskeleton and dehydrates it.
It is also safe to use directly on the animals (also safe for humans, just do not inhale a lot of the powder).
Can also be taken internally for intestinal parasites (both animals and humans), just buy food grade.

Sorry, I just looked over this and realized this is not exactly the advise you were asking for. A lot of people have never heard of DE and just wanted to throw that option out there. We have used it for ticks, fleas, lice, and bed bug prevention. But I know there are times when you have to go for the chemicals.

I'm thinking about it.

I do not care about the deposit but I wonder if the big people will mention it to the apt people?

My animals have never had fleas and within 2 months of moving to these apts my Cat has them.

The fleas were there before you moved in. I would get it done for the everyone's health, pay the bill then submit the invoice to the management company and see if you can get reimbursed or at least a percentage. The reason I say this is that the management company will use the least expensive exterminator who will use the least expensive product;)

Great Idea!! I will do this
Thanks.

I have been fighting these fleas for so long now. Sprays, powders, vacuum eveey day for 2 weeks, flea baths....this is month 7.

I'd be really nervous about doing it. Cover the tank, seal up the stand, turn off the skimmer, get some fresh GAC going - if you really must bomb the place.
What is GAC?

I am so fed up at this point with the fleas. Trust me I do not want to do this which is why I've waited 7 months...so far.
This is my last resort. If this does not work there is nothing else to do but live with them. I'm pretty sure I will be living with them as long as I'm in these apartments.

thanks

I was the same way, the bug guys we use are really good and have a Entomology person on staff. I asked them several times and I was reassured that is was a natural product. They have been spraying our house for a 1.75 years and we also have two cats with no issue

Definitely don’t bomb. Bombs don’t really work for flees any ways. I’ve done a ton of research. Get Comfortis for your pet and spray your house yourself. It’s super easy. Check out doyourownpestcontrol.com and spray whatever they recommend. I spray my house with Suspend SC. It’s safe, just don’t be an idiot and spray it in your tank.

Good luck!

Vacuuming is actually really effective inside your house too.

Don't need to spray, bomb, etc.continue what you are doing regarding vacumming etc but stop the flea baths. They only kill what is on the animal and are pretty ineffective. Contact your Vet for topical or oral flea prevention. I use Revolution on my cat, it has been the best in cats from my experience. I have not used Comfortis in cats but have used it in dogs and it is an effective flea killer.
Your pets will need to be treated for 3 to 6 months to clear the population in the environment, kinda like leaving the tank fallow for parasites, you have to let it go through the all the life stages.
Let me know if you have any questions, I've been a Vet Tech for 18yrs and can probably tell you more than you ever wanted to know about parasite control, lol.

A couple things you can do that are poison-less, and safe for pets.
1) Get a bag of Diatomaceous earth and dust your carpets with it.
it will kill fleas by cutting their outer shell, allowing their moisture to escape and they dry up .
Usually does the job in a few weeks. It will freshen your carpets also, absorbing odors without perfumes.

2) Sticky mouse traps placed on the floor, (the kind that mice stick to when they walk on them)
place a weak light directly over the trap(s) at night. The fleas be will be attracted to the light and will become stuck to the sticky trap. For roaches, place a little peanut butter in the center of a sticky trap, and put it in a dark out of the way place like under a fridge, or stove.

I tried that with not much success. Also tried the water bowl and soap under a light.
I hate these things.

I use a flea colar and also put the stuff on the back of her neck every 3 months.
Whenever she sleeps on the bed with me I get a lint roller and roll it on the bed.
In less than 1 week it looks like a sheet of black pepper on the lint roller.
I bet there is 15/inch of paper.
I only see the larve and eggs on the paper, I rareily ever catch an adult flea.

I wish I can move.

What are you putting in the back of her neck? Is it Bravecto or something OTC? If it's some type of fipronil based topical, baths are counter productive.

Flea collars are worthless, unless it's a Seresto flea collar? I've heard good things on the Seresto but have not used myself. Seen so many fleas running around, on, under the otc flea collars, I wish they wouldn't sell them..

Black dots are flea poop often referred to as flea dirt to make it sound nicer..

Do you have any other animals in the house? Guinea pigs, rabbits, etc. Every animal has to be treated or they'll keep going.

I would also watch the litter box, they can get tapeworms from eating fleas. These look like a grain of rice or cucumber seed on the poop. Sometimes you will even see them under the tail area, if they dried out they look like yellow uncooked rice... you vet can get you a dewormer if you see anything like that.
