Hey everyone. I recently purchased a new tank with a new sump and need some design help on modifying the current sump. I have an idea for the first chamber, where my water will flow from the DT to the sump, to put a "shelf" to hold two filter socks.
I would like to also put filter floss on top of the socks so that my socks can last longer as the floss can just be pulled and replaced very easily. However I have never worked with acrylic tanks before and I am not sure what would be best for this.
I thought maybe I should just get some magnets (4 sets) so that I can adjust the height of the shelf, therefore allowing me to put it in after I have the new tank filled. I have thought about bonding a piece of acrylic to the existing baffles, drilling two holes in the top for my socks, but also some residual holes in the event the water backs up over the top of the "shelf". The last option would be to get some kind of "hanging shelf" that could slip over the top of the baffle on one side and the edge of the sump on the other, but not sure how that would work. I am leaning toward the magnet idea so that I can add it later.
My idea is that the drain from the DT will be piped down with PVC and multiple holes will be drilled on the bottom of the PVC to allow water to drain out of the tube at intervals. At the end of the PVC I will leave it open to the secondary filter sock. The dirty water will run through the filter floss, into one of the two socks, then into the skimmer chamber.
I am not really sure what to do and wanted to reach out to everyone here and see what you would suggest.
