How to calculate turnover rate in DT?

I am wondering how much turn over rate I have in my dt and how much I need for my lps? My return is the rio2100+ on a 75 gal tank up top and two hydor 550 and 850. I am asking and wondering because when I put my hand in front of the return it barley pushes out water. Would I need a stronger pump?

Most folks don't rely on the return to provide much in the way of flow in the DT; it is merely a means of circulating the water between the sump (skimmer, fuge, etc) and the DT. There are many schools of thought as to how much flow is needed between the sump and DT.

Most flow in the DT comes from powerheads, wavemakers, Gyres, etc.

You could likely leave the return pump as is and get some larger powerheads if you want more water movement in the DT.

Tunze makes good and reliable pumps; you can get some non controllable ones for under $100. You'll pay more than $120 for a controllable Tunze.

Reefbreeders sells an interesting controllable pump for $130 (looks to be a Coral Box knockoff of the AI Nero)

Jebao also makes some affordable controllable pumps for under $100. I've had good luck with them, but some people haven't.

Here in Canada, the IceCap Gyre is sold under the Glamorca name, but it is identical. I have the 3000gph version and it is louder than the MP40 or my other wavemaker. It has a bit of a whine, but tolerable.
