How to catch a bad crab?

The jar trick sounds like the way to go. I have a gorilla crab that lives in my sump thats about the size of a silver dollar, his body. People love to look/feed him. I just dont see any reason to kill it when nothing else is in the sump.

Still no luck, just keep trapping my hermit crabs lol and once I catch him I'll be sure to post pictures, he's a ugly ugly mean looking crab

Can't believe it. This sucker is a smart dude. Try to put the jar near him with a shrimp attached with rubber and to a small rock inside the jar. Use a red flash light in the dark and watch him see we're he hangs out and put the jar near him. Good luck

Oh dude, I used to have my sister hold a piece of mysis with tweezers outside where his hangout was(obz I did some recon beforehand) and then had the big 12 inch tweezers around so when the crab came out to grab the mysis I swooped in like a freaking huntress lol plenty of failed attempts because that emerald crab was pretty intelligent(it was also HUGE, absurdly HUGE) but it was so satisfying to throw him in the sump

I have been looking at night and haven't been able to see him at all... I don't even know where he's re located too as of yet, been looking and looking moving the jar but nothing? My pistol shrimp has been on the move lately too, never seen him so active before

U got to locate him. Use a red flash light cause they don't see red. Then put the jar near him. They normally stick to a place for most of the time .study him then hunt him ill get him

I think it took my 2 hrs to get the crabs after I tore all my live rock and coral apart!!

I had the same problem in my first tank now i use dry rock so I'm pest free. I lost all my fish from a crab and what i did what took the rock out he was in and dipped the rock in fresh water and they come running out. Trust me it worked and Im glad I will never use that stupid live rock stuff again!

I've heard of people putting shrimp or silversides into a section of pantyhose which apparently slows the crab's movements' down pretty good.

If you got a big enough sump, don't kill it. Great scavengers!

Put him into my sump... have some live rock in there, also have tons of pods & live mysis shrimp

I keep one in my sump. He gets a silverside a week. Really cool critter.

That is what the one I am trying to catch looks like. Trying again tonight to catch him. He came near the bottle but wouldn't go in. Now I don't see him anymore. Maybe tomorrow.
